Inspired by the challenges of summer travel with children, Lucy developed and patented the Pillo Totte™ to solve a familiar parenting dilemma: how to manage bed pillows and toys during trips. The idea was born one day when she was walking to catch a train and noticed her son repeatedly dropping his bed pillow while struggling to hold onto his toys. During car rides, both her children insisted on bringing their bed pillows to nap, but once they arrived, the bulky pillows and scattered toys would quickly take over the space.
This innovation was developed by Lucy Livingston, Ed.D., a retired school administrator from an urban school district. Dr. Livingston created this radio-carrying solution in response to a critical safety concern: the inability to maintain constant access to a security radio during emergencies. During her tenure, radios were often misplaced or left on desks when urgently needed — such as during the sudden entrance of a gunman — because clipping the radio onto professional attire was often impractical or ineffective.
